NFL Week 10 News and Notes

--I stand corrected. Indy had a HUGE hangover against the Chargers. The Chargers certainly didn't play well enough to win that game and the officiating was absolutely horrendous but bottom line is Colts looked flat, unorganized and uninspired. That loss means that the road to the Superbowl is going through Foxborough and who ever ends up in the championship game is going to have to beat that tough Patriot team at home.......not a very enviable job at this point.

--Yes, yes I know the Cowboys beat the Giants. Two big plays to T.O. saved their bacon because honestly, they were outplayed at the line of scrimmage from start to finish by the Giants. Sorry, I'm still not that impressed.

--How about those Packers? After a 34-0 clubbing of the Vikes, I think everybody is figuring out that this team is for real. It looks like the running game is no long MIA and Brett Favre is.........well, just being Brett Favre, throwing TD passes and adding pages to that Hall of Fame resume. Outside of Brady, who is playing better QB right now than Favre?

--The Rams win, The Rams win!! Who the hell wore the Ram's uniforms on Sunday? Apparently the bye week something happened because they looked NOTHING like the 0-8 team that had been showing up pretending to play something related to football. Hey, in that division, who knows, 8-8 might win it, you just never know.

--Good to see Philly get a win this weekend, not so much because I'm a Philly fan but for Andy Reid. Maybe the vultures with get off his back this week, although that might be too much to ask for fans and media in the City of Brotherly Love. It's family like that that make me glad I'm an only child.

--To all the veterans out there, thank you for the sacrifices that you made for us and for our country and that we may have the freedoms that many people take for granted. Thank you and God bless you.

I still say the NFC better watch out for the Packers this year. I just feel its destiny that this team goes to the Super Bowl. No one is looking better than Favre other than Brady. He has this team playing like they did 10 years ago.

I don't know, Philman. I see the win by Dallas as something else. I'm hoping it means we can FINALLY have a discussion in New York about Eli Manning. I think, as I've felt for the past year or so, it's time to realize he is not the future of the Giants and to get value for him while his stock still seems to be so high. Get some quality players, maybe a first round pick, and let's move on from the hype and the unfulfilled promises.

I have to seriously disagree about Eli. Remember, he is only in his 4th year, and he has shown a lot of improvement this year, as has the rest of the team. He still has a lot to learn about playing quarterback but the skill and abilities are there. So you trade him for a #1 draft pick? Those are certainly no guarantee of success. It took brother Peyton 8 years to win a champion ship, took John Elway 14 seasons and Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl, and the Atlanta Falcons thought so little of Brett Favre after drafting him the second round that they traded him to Green Bay. Think they would like to have a do-over on that one?

Yes, but I do believe that Peyton was far better in his fourth year. And frankly I think four years is quite enough to develop as a quarterback...how much longer can they afford? I have two words for that: Tony Romo.

After 3 years in the league, Peyton was 0-3 in the playoffs, Favre was 1-1, Elway was 0-2 and Marino was 3-3 and Tom Brady 3-0. Eli is 0-2. All of the above QBs have gone on to win the Super Bowl with the exception of Marino. So, using that criteria, should the Chargers get rid of Phillip Rivers? Shouldn't Indy have thrown Peyton away since forever he was labeled as not being able to win the "big game"? Listen to any NFL quarterback and they will tell you that it takes five years to really, really learn the position to be able to compete in the NFL. Obviously, some people have a higher learning curve. Did Eli give up the two big plays to Dallas last Sunday?

Point well made. Still, I'm not sold on Eli. He's shown flashes of brilliance, but I have these recurring nightmares of another Drew Bledsoe. And I think Rivers might be in a little bit of trouble himself

I guess my thinking is that not every QB in the league is going to be a Hall of Fame player, or even ever win a Super Bowl. Remember Trent Dilfer? This guy helped the Ravens win a Super Bowl and then was promptly released. Fran Tarkenton never won a Super Bowl. QB is a tough position and different teams have different philosophies about what they want out of their QB.
